High Aspect Ratio
The aspect ratio of a kite is the proportion between its surface area and its span. High aspect ratio kites are slightly longer and thinner, allowing them to fly faster and sit closer to the edge of the wind window. They deliver excellent upwind performance, increased hangtime and remarkable lift. These kites are highly efficient, with less drag, and have a higher angle of attack as well.
On the other hand, they generate less power initially and build more power as they move. They may also be less stable in gusty conditions, more difficult to relaunch from the water after a crash and, overall, are a bit more demanding in terms of handling, making them better suited to intermediate and advanced riders.
