One more year as world champion for Christopher MacDonald!
Only a few weeks after winning the Big Air World Title, Chris was yet again on top of the world, this time in the Surf-Freestyle category.
Chris came into this GWA Wingfoil World Cup Fuerteventura as the tour leader thanks to previous wins in the first two legs in Leucate and Tarifa. This meant that, with a third win here, he could secure another world title in this discipline.
And, he did just that, becoming the Surf-Freestyle World Champion for the second year in a row.
Accustomed to the pressure of such challenging competitions, Chris however certainly knows how to pace himself all while making a strong impression at the same time.
After the first day, the 18-year-old ended up with a mind-blowing 9.5, 9.0, 9.27 scoreline and claimed the highest tally at that time, a 27.77. He flawlessly executed an explosive back mobe 360 handle pass, a perfect frontside 1080, and a combination front and backflips.
The following day, Chris picked up right where he left off and comfortably made his way to the final. There, he was lights out and totaled a massive 28.89 for the win, scoring a pair of 9.53 and a huge 9.83 for his frontside 1080, which he said, “was the best of my life.”
No matter what happens in the final stop of the tour, scheduled for late November in Brazil, this world title is Chris’.
Congratulations to Chris for his incredible showing on the tour this year, and for this new world title to add to his resume. Massive props to his teammates Noé Cuyala and Luca Vuillermet for reaching the semi-final, as well as Ezio Bastianelli, one of the youngest competitors of the field, who made it to round four.
